这个词一般不用于进行时 。
1. 表示“感激”“赞赏”等，通常为及物动词，其后可接名（代）词、动名词、名词性从句等作宾语，但不能接不定式 。如：
I’d appreciate some help.
如果有人帮忙我将非常感激 。
Your support is greatly appreciated.
十分感谢你的支持 。

[V -ing] I don’t appreciate being treated like a second-class citizen.
我不愿被人当作二等公民 。
[VN -ing] We would appreciate you letting us know of any pro苏州论坛网blems.
如有任何问题，请告诉我们 。
We would appreciate confirmation of your refusal of our invitation to take part.

其后不直接跟 if 或when引导的从句，若语义上需要接这类从句，需借助 it 。（热门考点，常常在改错题中出现）

谢谢光临 。无限欢迎 。

I’d appreciate it if you wouldn’t mention it.
如果你不提它，我会很感激 。
We really appreciate it when she offered to help. 她来帮忙了，我们十分感激 。
I would much appreciate it if you would arrange this for us. 如果你能替我安排这事，我将非常感激 。
I would appreciate it if you paid in cash.
假如你支付现金的话，我会不胜感激 。
2. 作“感激、感谢”其后只能接“事”作宾语，而不能接appreciate +人+ for one’s help 结构；若要用类似结构，可考虑用动词thank等 。比较：
正：We appreciate your help. 我们感谢你的帮助 。
误：We appreciate you for your help.
正：He thanked her for her help. 他感谢她的帮助 。
误：He thanked her help.
但是，直接+人作宾语是可以的：
They obviously appreciate you very much
他们显然对你十分感激 。

但是作“重视，赏识，欣赏”讲，可以接人：
Her family doesn’t appreciate her.
她的家人不重视她 。
3. 理解；意识到；领会；
[VN] What I failed to appreciate was the distance between the two cities.
我没有意识到这两座城市间的距离 。
[V wh-] I don’t think you appreciate how expensive it will be.

[V that] We didn’t fully appreciate that he was seriously ill.
