1.东南西北的基本意思(1)noth 指面向太阳升起的方向时，你左手边的方向，即北方 。

  • Our route went from north to soul. 我们的路线是自北向南 。
(2) south 指面向太阳升起的方向时，你右手边的方向，即南方 。
  • We have good relations with our neighbors in the south.
  • 我们和住在我们南边的邻居关系很好 。
(3) east 指太阳升起的方向，即东方 。
  • There are huge mountains to the east.东边是座大山 。
(4)west 指太阳落下的方向，即西方 。

2.与 the 连用在 north, south, east 和 west 前加 the 表示国家或地区的一部分 。

（2）实际上，通常在国名及大陆名前不使用 north, south, east 和 west,而要使用 northern, souther, eastern, western 。
  • 例如，不说 Most of the students come from west Europe.
  • 而说 Most of the students come from western Europe.
（3）通常在 peat, area, region, town, city 等词前也不使用 north, south, eat 和 west 。
  • 例如，不说 There is a lot of industry in the northern-cities.
（4）谈及风向时，将这些方位词放在 wind 前即可 。
  • The east wind had increased throughout the day. 东风全天都在不断加强 。
